Graduate Students

The SA election influences much more than just the undergraduate student population. As SA President, a focus needs to return to advocacy for the entire student body that includes the Medical, Law, and Graduate School students. The problems of Graduate Students are much different than the concerns of the Undergraduates, but that is not an excuse to ignore them. If elected as SA President, I will improve the communication channels and the relationship between the SA and the graduate programs at GW. In the past, the only time SA candidates reached out to the Graduate programs was during election time, and that practice is going to end if I am elected.

If I am elected, I can guarantee that funding will not be a problem for student organizations in the Graduate schools. The law, medical, and graduate programs are extremely important to the School’s prestige, and because of that, the student organizations that represent the students should not have to stress over financial issues. I am not guaranteeing a 100% increase in budgets, but I am guaranteeing a significant increase compared to last year’s budgets. It is my goal to allow every student organization to function to its best ability based on the budget that is allotted.

For Graduate Students, the Career Center is a critical service. As president, I will do my best to strengthen ties and create a healthy relationship with the Career Center, that will allow for Graduate Students to take full advantage of the great opportunities that can be found at the Career Center. Whether it is cosponsoring Career Fairs with the Career Center to hosting events centered on the hiring process, the SA will be focused on impacting the job search for the students it represents.

What you need to know about Justin Wanted for SA President

Wisdom
It's not about how smart you are but it is about how you use your intelligence. In the past, the SA has had many smart people but few wise people. A good leader must not only be able to relate to people but also understand the differences in people. If one understands these differences then one can lead effectively. I understand these differences.

Advocacy

When past SA presidents have said that they would advocate for the student body, they advocated for what they perceived were the needs of the student body. By contrast, I will advocate from the direct needs and requests of students. As much I will be as seen, you will be heard. Every problem that comes across my table will be regarded as the only problem across my table. I see problems not as collective complications but as individual solutions.

New Ideas

The longer one stays within an organization, the less one is able to break the habit and change it. The movement and transfer of new ideas becomes limited. What the SA needs is a rejuvenation from outside the SA. I believe that I can bring that replenishing rejuvenation. As SA President, I want to bring respectability back to the SA through the introduction of new ideas and new perspectives.

Transparency

The days of GW students not knowing what the SA does have ended. The days of GW students not knowing senators, bills, or members of the executive administration have ended. The SA under my leadership will become an open book. The SA cannot be truly transparent if we do not remove the existent blinds over its windows. It's time for a window without the old blinds so that students can truly see what the SA can do for them.

Experience
Ever since I stepped foot on GW's campus, I have always sought to advocate for students. From Clark Hall Room 28 to FSK Hall Room 807, it has always been my desire to represent students. Ask the residents of the Mount Vernon campus who lobbied to increase the frequency of the Vern Express shuttle on weekend-nights. Ask the residents of Mitchell Hall who represented their concerns during last year's controversial swastika incident. I have always represented students' needs and will continue to do so. I will use this advocacy experience from outside of the SA to re-energize the stagnant SA.

Development
Development of a community is key to my campaign and presidential candidacy. GW is an extremely diverse campus and community. It is my goal to unify this diverse and spread out community to form a truly Colonial Army. It is the job of the SA to provide the atmosphere for this to truly emerge. The SA's unification is representative of the entire student body's unification. If a president can unify the SA, he can unify the campus as well. Thus, as President, I would unify the SA and the campus.
